I am in this mood today. I sort of want to burst into tears and rip someone's head off, not necessarily in that order. It's one of those days where I just really want to ignore everyone and everything, watch cheesy 80s movies and read fluffy fic, but I can't. :/ The birds outside are being ridiculously loud and cheerful, and they should probably just eff off.

On the upside, there's a pretty good chance I'm going to see Empires and TAI next month with my sister. Bill Beckett, prepare to be my eyecandy. >:) I don't know how many of you are close enough that you might be attending the same show, but if you think you might be able to get to the Iowa City show at the Picador on the...18th, I think? Let me know, maybe we can ogle Bill Beckett together.

Because I should definitely be working on my BBB, but I can't resist:

Give me a pairing and a number. I will then use iTunes to connect that number to a song.

I'm better with MCR, Panic, and FOB in that order, but I'm willing to try TAI, Cobras, Empires and crossover pairings.

[livejournal.com profile] musictoyourlips called me from the empires show tonight, the one that I couldn't make it to. I listened to Spit the Dark and may or may not have teared up over how much I love that song and the fact that people are awesome enough to think about me when they're having their own empires fun. Thank you, Rosie. ♥

If you've posted that Christmas wishlist meme and don't see your name on this list, please link me! I've been trying to keep track of them as they're posted, but I'm paranoid about some slipping through the cracks.

Here's a story about my failyness that's sure to make you re-evaluate ever coming to visit.

I was going to make mac and cheese the other day, right? Because mac and cheese is awesome and easy and should be made often. My brother had just made something that required a cookie sheet and a spatula, and left the spatula on top of the cookie sheet on top of the oven, so I just used the burner on the other side. Or. I thought I did. Fifteen minutes later, my brother announces that I'm trying to kill them all - there were flames, the entire house was filled with the smoke of a dying spatula, and my water was not boiling because I'd turned on the wrong burner.

The problem with this is that it's not the first time things like this have happened. :-/ I once blew up the microwave because I thought someone said to put a baked potato in for half an hour, not ten minutes (I was like thirteen, give me a break). I once backed into a neighbor's gas main and the fire department came and woke up the entire neighborhood at five in the morning because they thought they might have to evacuate everyone. I once turned on a light, not realizing that someone's sock (seriously though, wtf, sock) was on top of it and it started the sock on fire. The recycling bin lid fell off the bin and onto our heating grate and melted into the heater. There were flames and smoke with that one, too.

So it's not all my fault, I just seem to have a tendency to be around when things like that happen. Fire incidents aside, I have never gone camping without a tornado popping up wherever it is I'm camping (three times, but after the third time I just said fuck it and stopped going camping).

Tell me about your most faily situations so I feel less like a disaster magnet. :(

Oh. My. God. Book sales are nothing short of HEAVEN. Seriously. Our Lion's Club has an annual book sale where people just donate books and then they sell them cheap, and I went tonight and it was AMAZING. I was literally making grabby hands at the books. I didn't have a lot to spend so I was trying to really only get the ones that were cheap and in good condition or a little bit more expensive but such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. I ended up spending $12.50, and I got the following:

I maybe want to go back tomorrow and spend any money I can find in the couch cushions )

A few of the paperbacks are well-worn, but nothing bad. They had tons of Terry Pratchett books, but they were all hardcover and therefore more expensive, so. :-/

They also had like, fifteen copies of The Bridges of Madison County. Is that a terrible book? It got donated pretty often! They also had probably every single Dean Koontz book ever published, a whole room dedicated just to romance novels, and a bunch of vinyl albums. I was so tempted, but I didn't even bother looking at them, because I was having a hard enough time keeping myself in check with the books.

[livejournal.com profile] lover_youshould, you are adorable and every day should be filled with voicemails from kino! Especially with fic-reading! I love you too, dollface. ♥

[livejournal.com profile] sparkfrost, it's treating me pretty well! I got about four hours of sleep today and I'm still coherent, so. \O/ energy drinks!

Ahahaha, [livejournal.com profile] of_evangeline, I love that you texted me in a fake accent. Just fyi, I totally read it in my head with a bad Russian accent. :D

eta. LARRRRRS I HATE THAT I MISSED YOU! :(

I am probably really late on this where you are, but I have to send a great big Happy Birthday! to [livejournal.com profile] subtle__sarcasm. Kat, you are amazing in so many ways, I don't know how many times I've been cheered up just by seeing a post from you on my flist. You are adorable and generous and your enthusiasm is contagious, and I just really ♥ you an awful lot. I hope you had a fantastic birthday, sweetheart, you deserve it.
quarterturn: (fi - you'll never work in this town agai)
I absolutely meant to post yesterday, but then I watched Bubble Boy (JAKE GYLLENHAAL DO ME EVEN WITH YOUR DUMB HAIR) and ate tacos. So, a productive day all in all.

Anyway! I managed to make it up to Minneapolis to see Reggie and the Full Effect and Leathermouth on Tuesday, and it was AWESOME. Ok, and I say that knowing some pretty high levels of awesome in the past.

I am mostly going to copy paste big sections of an e-mail I sent the night I got home, because it is way easier than typing it all out.

it gets a little rambly! )

pictures! )

These haven't cropped or fixed up at all, but do with them what you will. If you make icons I'd kind of love to know about it so I can grab some.

empires is playing the same venue in November, and I'm pretty sure I've got Allen talked into going (HEY THANKS [livejournal.com profile] just_katarin FOR MAKING ME LOVE THEM), but Alkaline Trio is playing a different venue in Minneapolis two days later, and there's no way I can make both. Um. I've been wanting to see Alkaline Trio for like five years. :-/ But they're playing at this really upscale place, I don't know, like the pictures make it look like something you'd see in LA, where you'd order Cristal and stuff. I think I'd rather wait and see them when they come back around and hope they end up at a different venue.

The tornado that hit south of us pretty much obliterated an entire town. I guess Bush is supposed to be here Thursday to do an assessment; he's already declared it an emergency zone. :-/

In less depressing news (I always feel a little weird following something like that up with frivolous TV talk. Double :-/) I watched some TV.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles )

Being Human )

We have to wait until next year for more of this? COME ON.

Moonlight )

I wasn't concerned in the least when I heard Moonlight wasn't being renewed, but now I'm kind of disappointed. I've heard there may be a move to a different network? Let's hope.

Good GOD this has gotten long. I leave you with adorable macros that have come across my flist at some point recently.

invisible macy's parade )

Also, new Heroes kink meme! Why is there never a kink meme in any fandom I participate in except Heroes? Have all the kinks been written in SPN? I kind of wouldn't doubt it. >.>

I got quite the haul of Christmas cards in the mail yesterday. *deep breath*

[livejournal.com profile] meagan868 (I adore this card and YOU!), [livejournal.com profile] karmicunderpath (HAHAHAHA COFFEE ♥), [livejournal.com profile] wook77 (GLITTER AND PENGUINS BABY, NOTHING BETTER!), [livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic (a-dorable, plus I don't think I knew your first name before this, how weird, but I love your name!), [livejournal.com profile] jadehunter (lol cheese tree! ridonkulously adorable!), [livejournal.com profile] spazzbot (OMG SO PRETTY WITH THE RIBBONS AND THE GLITTER AND THE STRIPES AND THE PICTURE JUST GUH), [livejournal.com profile] maechi (MORE PENGUINS EEEE), [livejournal.com profile] uneedmerchant (DR. SEUSS OMG NOSTALGIA), and a postcard from [livejournal.com profile] noorie (with bonus creepy Santa! :D) Thank you all so much! *squishes* I'm hanging all the cards up on my door and I'll have to take a picture as soon my mom stops hoarding the camera. :D

I also got an adorable v-gift from [livejournal.com profile] meagan868 and a very cute e-card from [livejournal.com profile] beckytheelf, thank you, darlings. It's probably cheesy to say, but little things like that always mean so much to me, it's cool to think someone's thinking about you, even if just for a couple minutes. :)

AND. Hokai. Not gonna lie, I got one of the most awesome packages in the whole wide world delivered. From my BFF [livejournal.com profile] such_jaunt, and I don't know how she does it, but she tops herself every time! I literally cannot even list all the stuff this package had in it, but again with the pictures when my mom decides to share. BUT I GOT ANOTHER VINTAGE MY LITTLE PONY. A PINK ONE. AND A MOTHER-EFFING SLAP BRACELET. YEAH. ALSO VINTAGE. I'm not sure I should be calling 80s stuff vintage, especially since I'm from the 80s, but you guys. A SLAP BRACELET. I haven't had one of those since I was in third grade. And all of this awesome other stuff like lip gloss and bracelets and a keychain and candy and LEGOS and just. Barbara, gosh I love you. Thank you so much, sweetheart, I am just overwhelmed with GLEE and AWESOME and LOVE.

My family Christmas wasn't nearly as awesome as that package, lol. I did get Left In Darkness, which, you know. At this point in my David Anders obsession, that is a pretty kickass gift. :D

My little sister got a puppy! My mom got me a movie and my little sister got a PUPPY. Totally fair. :D Anyway, it's a mini Dachshund and it really is adorable. We had to babysit it the night before, and I got SO attached to the thing. My sister and I decided to name it Kilgore (heh) but my little sister was not fond of that name and ended up calling it Penny.

Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] psychotic_scam, six things you probably don't know about me.

1. I dream about alligators. Big ones. That try to eat me or people I love. A lot.
2. I sneeze at least once every time I eat something especially minty. Mostly Altoids.
3. My brother and I have conversations on a regular basis about things like how Reba McIntyre and Chris Jericho are orangutans and trying to take over the world, and we do it totally straight-faced.
4. I can inflict severe pain using just my toes.
5. The smell of Spaghetti-os and canned ravioli makes me nauseous (although I can eat both without a problem.)
6. I refuse to swim in anything except swimming pools because I'm terrified that even though it would defy logic, there are sharks in the water. Or if not sharks, at least dead bodies and their decaying flesh would get on me.

I am far too lazy to tag anyone specifically today. You should all do it because I'm terribly nosy.

I've been reading a lot of Alias fic lately, ok. (And my undying gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] mooyoo for links!) Mostly just stuff where Sark is involved, and mostly just slash. Although I have to admit that Sark/Lauren pings me pretty hard, and I don't even mind Sark/Sydney in small doses. Sark/Vaughn, or Sark/Will, or even Sark/Weiss, though? MAKES ME FEEL LIKE MY BRAIN IS SIZZLING IN MY SKULL. There are some really good pieces that I feel I must share, even if like, only two people on my list even care.

alias recs )

And one Heroes rec, which I found while catching up tags in [livejournal.com profile] heroes_fic, and totally off topic, but I put up a poll there yesterday to gauge tags usage, and I am kind of pathetically happy that so far it seems like people actually use tags in the manner I had intended.

- Five Games Sylar Never Played by [livejournal.com profile] sameoldhope. Gen, and just really brilliant. The writing, characterizations, just everything, I really really love this. I honestly don't even know how to explain this fic well enough to entice you to read it, but you really should.

As brought to my attention by [livejournal.com profile] lucentliz, the BBC promos for Heroes, which are gorgeous and I love them a lot. Claire, Bennet, Nathan. ETA: And Peter, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] kerri_is_dead.

Also, kind of late mentioning it, but I got the most adorable Thanksgiving card from [livejournal.com profile] uneedmerchant. It has pumpkin pie on the cover! Yumyumyum. Thank you, sugar. ♥

ramble-y RL-type stuff )

/ ramble-y junk that you don't care about hokai.

So, TV! Which, gosh, I watch way too much of.

Dirty Sexy Money 1x01, 1x02, 1x03 )

Dexter 1x01, 1x02, 1x03 )

Supernatural 3x02 )

Which brings me to a question I've been pondering: just how many women has Dean slept with? (Saying he's only slept with women, which I'm not, but. That's a question for another time.) So, poll!

This poll isn't to gauge how many times he's had sex, because I'm sure we're all aware that if you have Dean Winchester in your bed, you do not stop at once. Ever. Just how many women overall he's been with. I know the number increments are wonky, but they seemed to fit.

poll! )

Supernatural, continued )

Heroes 2x04 )

This is super long. If I had something to offer in appreciation of your reading, I'd offer it, but seeing as how the rain that we've been having for TWO WEEKS STRAIGHT makes my internet connection stop working every five minutes or so, I have not been doing any uploading. So you'll just have to take my less fun thanks very much. ♥

I swear I don't mean to keep disappearing. Damn life keeps getting in the way. Need to do something about that.

However! My absence has yielded a few results, the ones I care to mention being:

- I've watched the entire first season of Skins (someone please tell me why there are NO good icons from this show ANYWHERE. I desperately need icons of a few key moments.) I really kind of love the show overall (um, canon slash? I am always easily swayed by such things) but ok, this is going to sound really dumb, but I always get kind of a claustrophobic feeling when I watch British shows. Am I the only one? It's not ALL British shows, but most of them. I don't know if it's the way they're filmed or if the houses/buildings there are actually that cramped, but I always feel like everything is too small. So, it's my own weirdness contributing to me not loving the show as much as I could.

- My brother talked me into watching the whole first season of Psych. Well, he talked me into watching the first few episodes, and then he got tired and went to bed and I stayed up until eight in the morning finishing the season. >.> Someone please tell me I'm not the only one who likes Gus more than Shawn? Not that I dislike Shawn, but I sort of want a Gus all to myself. Especially if he wore the band uniform all the time. :D I have talked myself out of writing Shawn/Gus and Lassiter/Shawn several times over the past week. I might only be talking myself out of the Lassiter/Shawn because I can't stop thinking of Lassiter as that crazy Irish leprechaun from The Luck of the Irish. What? That was an awesome movie, hokai, I don't care if it was a Disney Channel original or not. Plus Ryan Merriman is hot. I still have that movie on a VHS tape somewhere.

- I started watching Meadowlands. CREEPTASTIC. Seriously. Shannon, I know you're watching this. WRITE ME FIC. (I know I have no right to ask that considering I still haven't read the Hamiltons fic, but um, still. I know out of everyone you would kick ass at writing fic for this.)

- I watched some new movies, which is a rarity. Mr. Brooks (lame but watchable if only for the surprise that was Dane Cook playing a creepy guy with untamed facial hair), Premonition (lame but watchable because Sandra Bullock has been my older woman crush since Speed) and Perfect Stranger (totally lame but watchable if only for Nicki Aycox and Giovanni Ribisi, who surprises me every single time with how hot he really is.)

- I cleaned out my storage unit, which was packed full of everything I couldn't fit in here when I broke up with Allen and moved out of the house. Lots of furniture, but so much miscellaneous crap you wouldn't believe it. The best part? Was probably when I was digging through some bags of stuffed animals, figuring out which ones I wanted to keep and which ones I wanted to donate, and finding a little furry mouse that I didn't remember having, and then realizing that it was actually a DEAD MOUSE. And then finding another one. Of all the bags they could have curled up and died in. GOOD JOKE, MICE.

- I discovered that the owner of the Chinese place in town stalks my sister. Allen and I went there to eat the other day, and the guy was walking by our table, stops dead in his tracks, and comes back to say, "Your sister was just in here." And I'm like, "..." because really, I don't know this guy, like at all, and he doesn't know me, so WTF? And I'm like, "Um. Yeah, she comes in here a lot." He said she was with a friend, and I said she comes in with my brother sometimes, and the whole time I'm just thinking WTFWTFWTFWTF, because there's really no way he should be able to link us, even if he knows her name, because Allen and I always pay in cash, and I've never even had a conversation with this guy, and WTF. And THEN he goes, "You live in Maple Heights, right?" Which is our neighborhood, and I'm just like, "...yes." *concentrates intently on chicken fried rice and hopes he goes away* It worked. Allen says Ashley and I look enough alike that we could be identified as sisters, but still. Like, uh, there are probably lots of people in town that look enough like us that they could be our sisters. IT WAS V. V. WEIRD. My brother told me later that the guy is always hovering around her when she goes in to eat and staring at her chest. Nice.

- Saw the fireworks, got hit by falling debris. Good times.

- Went swimming/laying out in the sun, and did not burn. I did re-apply the sunscreen every ten minutes, I kid you not, but it is the first time I didn't burn in like, two years. So. Paranoia works.

- Made fake Facebook accounts for Robert Loggia and Chuck Norris (whose real name, I found out, is Carlos Ray Norris. Who knew?) They are friends with my brother and sister's fake Craig T. Nelson and Bob Saget, and my cousin's account for Jamie Hyneman's Mustache. You guys, I know me having a Facebook account wasn't all that much of a lure for you to get one, but really, if you're bored and need something to keep you occupied, get an account and friend these accounts. They are v. v. fun, I promise. Robert Loggia has an obsession with toast and insists that he played the dinosaur in A Night At the Museum. He is a crazy old coot.

- Oh my gosh this is getting long.

- I missed a few birthdays while I was away, boo! Happy belated birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] maechi, [livejournal.com profile] rahnekat1, [livejournal.com profile] ladyalcamy, [livejournal.com profile] quietdiscerning, [livejournal.com profile] nutkin, and [livejournal.com profile] rhombal! You are all fantastic and I am glad to have every single one of you on my flist. I hope you all had fabulous birthdays, and if there's anything I can do for you, let me know! I'm currently backlogged on fics I owe, but I would absolutely add you to the list if you want. ♥

- And a very happy birthday today to [livejournal.com profile] whirligigged, who is wonderful and lovely and talented and amazing, and I love her to pieces! ♥

- I think I had more, but this'll do for now. I missed you guys. *squishes all around*

So we went out for Mexican tonight, right? And it was so good, even though I only ate like a fourth of it because I haven't been very hungry lately. But whatever, still good. And the entire time we were wondering what was going on outside, because there's all these people out, and we live in a small town, so it's usually pretty quiet in the evenings. A rally of some kind, maybe?

And then we decided to go miniature golfing, and dude, the people were effing SLOW as hell. Just kind of wandering around, shuffling I guess would be a more apt term, not even paying attention to what they were doing, so we just played through. And I swear to god I could have made a hole in one on the last one, but this guy BIT me. Yeah, seriously, I know, right? Just sunk his teeth into my shoulder, and ew, he wasn't even cute. I managed to smack him upside the head with my putter, and he seemed pretty peeved, but I couldn't make out what he was saying. Didn't even really sound like he was saying anything, just kind of groaning. Well, whatever, I hope he had his rabies shots.

So now I'm home and- huh. The news just came on, and they're saying something about a fast-spreading virus or something? Come to think of it, I'm not feeling so great. I hope that guy didn't give me anything. :-/
quarterturn: (rps - ja/jp - love)
So, last night (er, this morning) I was too lazy tired to wash off my makeup before I went to bed, or even really take my hair down, so this morning I stumbled into the bathroom and my eyes were like "Hai bb, you look like a crack whore," and my hair was like, "You, not FTW!"

We went shopping for booze yesterday, because Allen's party is in a week and a half and I guess he wanted to make sure it didn't all sell out? IDK. He spent a ridiculous amount of money. However, I think he's set for alcohol for oh, the next couple of years or so. I made him buy this stuff called Tequila Rose, it's a creamy strawberry and tequila mixture, it sounds pretty damn good. And he got Guinness just for me. :D AND! He bought me a teeny tiny little bottle of Bailey's Mint Chocolate, which I've been wanting to try. Someday I will have a teeny tiny little alcohol bottle collection, and it will be made of win.

Also, we went mini golfing in a place that was pitch black except for glow in the dark stuff. It was pretty amazing. I sucked, as usual. And that new Avril Lavigne song was playing, the "Girlfriend" one, and I was like DAMMIT WHY IS THIS SO CATCHY.

And then I came home and was in a terrible mood and kind of just wanted everyone to go die, but then I talked to Pam and we discussed, among other things, how ridiculously obvious Jared and Jensen are, and I felt better. Speaking of which, what is the deal with this $25,000 watch? (Keep in mind I have no definitive proof the watch cost this much, this is what I'm hearing from my flist.) Are there details? Will someone in this awesome fandom make a manip of that diamond commercial from Family Guy? You know, "Diamonds: She pretty much has to." Except this time it will be, "$25,000 watch: He pretty much has to." ETA: [livejournal.com profile] pink_faerie81 wins.

Supernatural friending meme and Heroes friending meme. I kept telling myself I was done with friending memes for the year, but I am so weak. Hello, new friends. ♥
quarterturn: (Default)
Obvs I did not die in a tornado, but thank you guys for all your well wishes! It passed over us, so now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it does the same for [livejournal.com profile] theroyalcrymson up in Minnesota.

I read my first [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang fic earlier, Monogatari by [livejournal.com profile] winterlive, and man. If the rest of them shape up to be like this? I AM IN FOR A GOOD SUMMER.

Honestly, I'm usually not so big on long fics, mostly because my attention span is worthless, but also because I think I've been scarred by too many chaptered fics that either go on forever and the chapters end up being nothing but filler, or WIPs that never get finished and I'm left hanging. But this was such an enjoyable read. I wasn't blown away or anything, but it was definitely good. Is that a faux pas to be a little critical when you're giving recs? I feel a little awkward being like, "well this is what I didn't like, but here's what I did like" because to me, recs are for praising work, so I don't know. I'm gonna talk about it under the cut, good and bad things, and there will obviously be spoilers. Seriously, if there's even a smallish chance you'll read this, don't click the cut. There are some really cool twists and surprises in the story that would be ruined if you read this.

Ackles-san )

Go read it and then come back and discuss with me. We can start like a Big Bang Book Club, and every week we'll discuss another story, hokai.
quarterturn: (rashida - goddamn that girl is pretty)
Quick post before my house gets like, blown away or something. :-/ Tornadoes ahoy! Yeah, bad weather sucks unless it's just thunderstorms which I can curl up and sleep to. Tornadoes, GTFO plz.

Anyway SO. PEEKTURES! Of Jared! At Jensen's play! And an eyewitness account of Jared calling Jensen's daddy Pappa Ackles! WHATZOMGLSKDJFSDLSJFD. And oh yeah, Sandy was there lookin' pretty cute and some other chick which is apparently Jensen's girlfriend but you know. I focus on the big tall one that vaguely resembles a PUPPY.

And as [livejournal.com profile] schneestern pointed out, THERE IS A RING ON THAT BOY'S FINGER. Discuss amongst yourselves while I'm cowering in a basement.

And bonus! A review of the performance! (Not from last night.)

Also, a few quick links.

- [livejournal.com profile] ack_attack's season one, episode one Lost recap - And John was like "It's sleepy out here...my shoes hurt."

- [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang is opening up today, and there will be stories posted, so get out your reading glasses, kids, there are going to be some long ones. That's what she said. I am v. v. psyched about this!

- And if you like that concept, you should go sign up for [livejournal.com profile] heroes_bigboom, and write me some extra long Heroes fic that I can roll around in and love on. And also check out [livejournal.com profile] heroesficathon where there is a crossover ficathon going on, and you know you've been wanting to write that Heroes crossover with SPN, right? Or Dark Angel? Or PROFIT OMG FTW. Somebody do that.

- And [livejournal.com profile] spnbreaksthelaw! Oh man, best idea for a challenge EVER. You know all those stupid laws that never got taken off the books? FIC PROMPTS. I took Utah, "It is illegal to cause a catastrophe."

- Mohinder and Sylar set to the Spongebob F-U-N song - Brilliance? Madness? BOTH? [livejournal.com profile] scarletangel68 pointed me in the direction of this and I am kind of in love with that song, so, you know. I'm not actually twelve, I just act like it.

- Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking - A Sylar vid, omg, so good. Seriously, I loved this song before, but now I'm just obsessed with it. Probably in my top three favorite Heroes vids of all time. Another one Lisa pointed me to, because she knows how I operate.

Omg the sky looks funny. :-/ Wish me no tornadoes!
